Here's pics of my wheels i got back from Buchanan's today The rims are 20" from Al McRoberts in Michigan. The tires are Coker 3. The tires seem to be a much small diameter than the rims, but the rims measure 20" i also understand there are no cords in the beads of the clincher tires.

Not very many people today are riding old bikes with the early style tires. The were replaced for good reasons, the main one being that drop center tires stay in place better on their rims. The shape of the bead is such that the pressure from the inner tube forces the tire bead under the edge of the wheel rim.
Vintage cars with the x size have historically been forced to change their wheels to well base construction, because of the dire quality and hideously high prices of the beaded edge tyres available, which wore out in no time.
