We went to Scotland for a week and after reading all the hype about how fantastic the glass bottomed boat is, altered our entire itinerary around going on a trip in it! What a huge disappointment! What a rip off!
These unique wildlife cruises depart regularly from the pontoons at Kyle of Lochalsh every day, 7 days a week, from Easter until the end of October. Seaprobe Atlantis is licensed to carry up to 55 passengers. Two toilets are available on board, and we are also able to provide hot and cold refreshments.
I am sure this would be 5 star earlier in the year. We found the trip good and informative and good views. However the benefit of the glass bottom is not so great when there is less to see.
Peer out through the glass at the magical wonderland under the sea from the newly built, fully equipped Seaprobe Atlantis. See wrecks and wildlife narrated by local guides as you drift gently through the kelp. Above water the views are fantastic with the Cuillin hills of the Isle of Skye to one side, the Skye Bridge and Locha Alsh onthe other.
The Seaprobe Atlantis Glass Bottom Boat gives the best of both worlds 'above and below the waves', enjoy all the fantastic sea views of Skye and the mainland of Scotland as we sail out under the Skye bridge or head down Lochalsh looking for seals, otters and other wildlife. Then go below decks to see the fascinating underwater world teeming with marine life. We operate throughout the day, 7 days a week from Easter - October 31st.
We started our boat trips in and then developed the idea with our newer boat inbelow in the gallery are some pictures of Seaprobe Atlantis under construction. This was a very challenging job for both the naval architects and the boat builders, being the first ever class IV semi-submersible passenger boat in the UK, it gave everyone a considerable challenge to bring it all together. Considerable thought went into the safety aspects of the boat, the designs were approved by Lloyds and all stability characteristics were veted and approved by the Maritime Coastguard agency.
